Ensimmäinen postaus Belgiasta!
For those I've forgotten to tell, this blog will now be in English. Why? I had decided to do this before I knew that I was allowed to take my computer here. And why do I continue to follow the original plan? I have friends who do not speak/understand Finnish and I can't afford to send that many cards all the time.
I arrived here on Saturday morning, nothing special about that. At the airport I met a lot of people who I can't remember the name of. After that I was driven to my first home for breakfast. My welcome committee also joined me and my host family. In my first family there are three girls, but only two will be here with me all the time since one of them just arrived from Australia and will travel back in two weeks. I happen to have her room so she's staying in the guest room.
About my new home: It's big. I'm used to an apartment and now moving to a three-story house is different. Actually, there are three story's and a garage. I thought the French book was just telling half of the truth when it came to Belgians and BD (bandes dessinées=comics). I have NEVER seen this many Tintin-related things in my life. My hostdad really likes comics, there is a part of the garage/cellar that is filled with different BD's. In French of course... I've already been reading an Asterix-comic in French :)
Today me and my host parents went to the down-town in Brussels. We were cruising in a cabriolet sport Mini :D Since I'm new to Belgium, we went to see l'Atomium and le petit bonhomme haute comme trois pommes. It is true, he really is only three apples tall.
Before we went home, we decided to stop at a restaurant to eat supper. Result from eating in Cook&Book: 10 BD's and one manga. Still don't believe my hostdad likes BD?
As for learning French, almost everyone speaks French to me and only use English when I can't understand something. Next week, I will go to my school and choose my courses and the day before that I will attend a very formal Rotary-thing with all the other inbound students here in Belgium.
Bisous
